Key Stage 1

Key stage 1 will introduce the Buddhist way of life and Buddhist short stories. Students will have a glance at the Sinhala language and Sinhala culture. We present quality lessons making sure that it is interesting to the child.

Who is this class for?

  • This class is for the one who has basic knowledge of the Buddhist way of life. Children who have passed the Beginners level will be admitted to Key Stage 1. The ideal age group will be year 6-7

Homework is usually set up each week on the lessons learned on the day, parents could expect some homework from the previous week’s lessons as well.

End of year expectation:

  • Identify Buddhist Symbols (Dhamma Wheel, Lotus, Oil Lamp, etc.)
  • Have a basic idea of Triple Gems, good manners, and good belief.
  • Able to chant some Pali Vandana gathas.
  • Ability to identify, pronounce Sinhala language letters and form very simple two/three-letter words
  • Singing and remember a few Sinhala songs/Gathas
  • Able to count in Sinhala 1-50
  • Able to identify colors in Sinhala
  • Have a basic understanding of the Sri Lankan culture
  • Have a basic knowledge of Buddhist life, culture, and festivals

AssessmentTeachers will make assessments throughout the year followed by an end-of-year assessment.
