Brief History of Vihara

The establishment of Shanthi Vihara and Meditation Centre, on 1st February 2013, at the rented-out premises on 523 Nuthall Road, Nottingham, was of great significance not only to Buddhists but also to those interested in meditation, in Nottingham and surrounding areas. It was the fulfilment of a long-felt need. Under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent, Venerable Teldeniyaye Amitha, progress since has been relentless. So much so that, in view of the progressively increasing demand for services, the committee is already on the lookout for larger premises. Though due to the tremendous support from the devotees and well-wishers it became possible to purchase the premises in a short period of time, lack of space for larger gatherings and the inability to expand the meditation services has mandated the need for larger premises. It is hoped that relocation to a purpose-built centre will happen soon.
